How to Overcome Pain

Life is like a series of seasons. We all experience good and bad times. In life, we ever have some times when we face failure, confusion, loss, hurt, and other bad things. Those create darkness and pain. Sometimes we lose hope and get depressed.

I will share the ways to overcome pain. I get them from Robin Sharma. He is a famous Canadian author that has written 13 books. One of his famous books is The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari. Robin gives us 5 tools to overcome pain. Those are:

  1. Journaling. Take some pieces of paper or a laptop. Then write down what you feel inside your heart. Journaling helps you release low energy and emotions (anger, sorrow, confusion, disappointment, etc). It also helps you foster hope. Write what you want to happen in your life. It must be something bigger, better, and greater. Do not forget to write things that you’re grateful for.
  2. Talking. Find someone you trust. Tell what you feel about him/her. By talking to someone, you will release the pain that you feel inside. The low-energy emotions will fade slowly. People who repress and suppress pain will become toxic persons; they will feel bitter, and they have physical illnesses years later.
  3. Communing with nature. Do a nature walk. Go to a place where you can feel the beauty of nature. Feel the fresh air, enjoy the birds singing, the blue sky, and whatever. Nature allows you to commune with the beauty of life. You will feel grateful. Then you are able to use your pain as an instrument for your greatest growth.
  4. Moving. Moving here means doing exercises. Go to a gym, play football, or do other exercises. Moving can boost your mood. It provides positive energy. And you will be fresher than before.
  5. Resting. Everyone needs some time to rest. Resting means being productive in a different way. It can produce strength, ideas, and new energy. “There are times to plant, and there are times to leave your farm. A wise farmer knows when to plant and when to rest.” Remember that always.

Those are the powerful tools shared by Robin Sharma. He reminds us to read what Khalil Gibran said, “Your difficult time comes to you to crack the shell that covers your understanding.” Those words are deep. And last he said, “Wear your scars proudly and turn your wound into wisdom.”

In my opinion, there is one more powerful tool. Robin does not mention praying. It is the greatest weapon on earth. When we find nobody to talk to, we can talk to God through praying. It can relieve the burden inside. We will never lose hope by keeping our prayers.
