October’s Song

October’s Song

Do you have something special in October? For me, October reminds me of many things. One of them is Skid Row’s song, October’s Song. It is the 9th track of their latest album. The band released the album “The Gang’s All Here” last year.

The song was written by Rachel Bolan. He said that his father died in October, and JP Theart’s mother died in October, too. Rachel’s father was a father to “Snake” Sabo and Scotti Hill as well. They have been friends for more than thirty years. The song is about the loss.

“Snake” Sabo in “Behind the Album Webisodes” said that the song was the longest song the band ever had. It had different meanings for every member of the band. For him personally, it told about going through loss but having a new life created.

“You’re losing something, but a new life gets born. We all experience loss, but with the loss, we find new bloom and new birth. It’s the cycle of life. We can still celebrate the life before and after.” said “Snake” Sabo.

Rachel wrote the lyrics when Snake was in his house to create songs. Snake had the acoustic riff for a long time. Scotti Hill kept asking him and Rachel to write lyrics for that riff. Erik Grönwall, the new vocalist of Skid Row, sang it beautifully.
